The piece started as a nude study with a Ukrainian ballet dancer, but has become a physical mixed-media object on wood. The movement of the body is partly absorbed into the dark surface, while the gold tones and the texture of the paper keep the figure present.
The work is made with gold paint containing metallic particles, gold leaf, Japanese Awagami Kozo paper, linseed oil and several layers of varnish. The surface is tactile and imperfect, with visible traces of the handwork, the paper, the oil and the varnish.
The ornate gold frame is part of the work itself, giving the image the presence of a small dark icon.
