Red baret

The piece started as a photograph, but has become a physical object through a slow mixed-media process on wood. The surface is built with gold paint containing metallic particles, Japanese Awagami Kozo paper, linseed oil, several layers of varnish and details of gold leaf.

The ornate gold frame is part of the work itself, giving the image the feeling of a small dark icon or a found painting. The surface remains tactile and imperfect, with visible traces of the process, the paper, the oil and the varnish.
